barb

Barbaro is a male horse bred on Kentucky, United States and born on the 29th of April(2003).
Unfortunately, Barbaro died on the 29th of January(2007).He only lived 4 years, but there were 4 years
full of flying colours and glory.
Anyway, his real landslide was when he decisively won the 2006 kentucky Derby.
Tragically Barbaro crushed down his leg two weeks later, in the 2006 Preakness Stakes, ending his racing
career.
Natheless, Barbaro participated in the Preakness Stakes as a heavy favourite,
but immediately after the start,he crushed down three of his bones, losing any chance
of a triple Crown win. This moment marqued the end of his racing career.
However, at the time of his injury,Barbaro's lifetime earnings stood at more
than $2.3 million.
The next day, barbaro was carried at the New Bolton Center, at the University
of Pennsylvania for his injuries.Barbaro underwent more than five hours of surgery.
Barbaro sustained a broken cannon bone above the ankle, a brokensesamoid bone behind the ankle and a broken
long pastern bone below the ankle. The fetlock joint the ankle was dislocated.
A doctor said that his pastern bone was shattered in 20 parts.
Barbaro also had honors: Pimlico Racecourse has renamed the Sir Barton Stakes the Barbaro
Stakes in honor of the horse. The race is due to be run before the Preakness Stakes, the race
in which Barbaro suffered his injury.
Barbaro was the Deadspin Sports Human Of The Year Winner for 2006, defeating Chris
Berman.
As for his racing career Barbaro's track record is spectacular.
On the 4th of October(2005) Barbaro won the Maiden Race, located in Wilmington,Delaware.
On the 19th of November(2005) he won the Laurel Futurity Racecourse in Laurel,Maryland.
On the 1st of January (2006) he won the Tropical Park Derby race, in Miami Gardens, Florida.
On the 4th of February (2006) he won the Holy Bull Stakes race, in Hallandale Beach, Florida.
On the 1st of April (2006) he won the Florida Derby Race in Florda, and on May 6,2006 he won
his last race,Kentucky Derby, in Louisville , Kentucky.
Barbaro, altough was just a horse, he had a lot of friends , a lot of fans...about this horse Becky Fredricks, 55,
who lives in Lothian in Anne Arundel County said:
"I think some of us probably are nuts," "I'm probably nuts. I spent $1,000 last night on a picture of Barbaro
grazing. But the money went to research to find a cure for laminitis, so I'm happy. A lot of people say things like, 'It's just
a horse. It's not a person.' But, to me, they don't get it. Animals are so honest. Barbaro never lied.
He never cheated. He never took drugs. He just wanted to run. He had a magical spirit."
Barbaro was euthanized on January 29, 2007 around 10:30 AM by decision of his owners
Roy and Gretchen Jackson, who indicated that they felt that his pain was no longer
manageable. Gretchen Jackson said "Grief is the price we all pay for love."
